Photography has inherited from painting a set of dominant genres: landscape, portraiture, still life, social realism and the nude. We at iris were interested in how women negotiate these five genres.
Shifting Horizons- Women’s Landscape Photography Now was the first book in the “Ellipsis” series, published in 2000. Throughout the history of photography the genre of landscape has been dominated by male perspectives. In this work, ten women photographers interpret the notion of “landscape” from a variety of perspectives.
2003 Masquerade, Women’s Contemporary Portraiture This volume explored the genre boundaries that define portraiture and contains 10 portfolios of images and 7 commissioned essays.
