Ming de Nasty

Artist Statement

Ming started working as a photographer in 1987. She began by taking photos of Punk & Indie bands, for local record labels to use for publicity and record sleeves. In 1989 she set up the photographic studio ‘Poseurs’ on Ladypool Road in Birmingham, specialising in hand tinted and black and white portraiture.

She later moved her studio to the Custard Factory and branched out creatively into montage, toning, image transfers and building sets for photographic shoots. These techniques were used to produce work for record companies and book publishers.

Working in this way led Ming to digital photography. Photoshop and other digital media provided the perfect vehicle for the work that she is creating today. Ming now produces images for companies, museums, art galleries and councils across the country. She also teaches digital photography and Photoshop skills.

Ming’s expertise in portraiture and attention to detail, through digital manipulation, have produced strong and vibrant images. Ming has a humorous and compassionate eye and her pictures demonstrate her capacity to relate to people and what is important to them.
