My work involves using constructed imagery, often in a studio setting, to bring together elements to form a narrative within the frame. These may include layers of meaning and hints of inner psychological processes, thoughts, dreams, memory and the overlay of external reality, influence and so forth.
The work of Gaston Bachelard is influential in exploring these ideas and links between the object and poetic meaning or visual construction. The inhabitation of shells, nests, small artifacts of nature. Interaction with physical space. More recently apparent connections of objects are being made using more random collections of objects. This is with the intention of exploring boundaries and occupied space in relation to the everyday.
I am currently also working on the use of social and networking photography with reference to the carte de visite of the Victorian era and subsequent current practice. Linked to this is the exploration of the taboo in social use of the photographic image.
I enjoy a wide range of Photographic work including Mari Mahr, Angus McBean, John Blakemore, the surrealists, Rodchenko, and so on..
