Artist Statement

My concerns as a professional artist practicing within an artistic context are people orientated and explore challenging issues that are concealed away from the public eye. Working mostly in photography and more recently video and sound my work to date has explored mental health, domestic violence and intimacy in the third age. I am very interested in the unseen, exploring behind the scenes, addressing a private moment and trying to express it in a way that is moving and non-judgemental. My strengths are research and personal involvement with the subject before the process of making work. These play a strong role within the way I work and allows me the time to aesthetically respond to what is visually required. My approach is one of attention to detail in which the final piece conjures up underlying emotions that demand a response.
