Sara Farrington's work explores the relationship between people and their domestic living spaces. It is a relationship that can be tender and warm, or strangely hostile and disturbing.
Domestic spaces are personalized by their inhabitants, both physically, in the décor they choose and the objects they surround themselves with, and by the imprints of memories they leave behind. Public spaces such as hospitals and airports lack this humanization.
Can we tell more about a person from a photograph of their face or a photograph of their living space? The juxtaposition of a face and a piece of wallpaper invites the assumption that the wallpaper is from that persons home, which then invites assumptions about their taste and personality. The sinister darkness of the images in contrast to the garish wallpaper suggests something menacing, that for some the home is not a place of comfort and safety.
